Like one where these people see these floating balls that constantly move and are changing size in midair. Try getting near and you can suddenly disappear when the balls touch you. Turns out the balls are just the -fingertips- of the creature, like pressing your fingers up on glass. The creature just would grab the person out of existence to who knows where. It is just a story, of course.
